BIRMINGHAM, UK -  English roses from across the country will be taking centre stage at the Hilton Birmingham Metropole this summer, as the hotel is named the venue for the upcoming Miss England 2010 final.

The two day event, held on 31st August and 1st September 2010, will see the regional finalists who have been competing across the country throughout the year, come head-to-head until this year’s winner is crowned. During the competition, the contestants will have the opportunity to relax in the recently refurbished four star hotel, and enjoy its leisure and spa facilities and newly refurbished restaurants.

The competition has, for the first time in 60 years, banned the “swimsuit round” to provide a focus on the sporting prowess of the contestants, a modern twist in line with the new direction of the contest. Last year’s winner Katrina Hodge, who represented England at the Miss World 2009 final in Johannesburg, recently visited the hotel to ensure it was the appropriate venue for staging such a well-established and respected event. As a former Lance Corporal in the Armed Forces, Katrina represents a growing trend of ladies entering the competition from different and varied backgrounds.

Commenting, Patrick Stapleton general manager of the Hilton Birmingham Metropole, said: “This is a great opportunity for the hotel and Birmingham to hold such a prestigious event. We’re used to holding a number of large-scale events because with space for up to 2000 guests and 790 bedrooms, we are one of the largest venues in the UK - although Miss England will possibly be the most glamourous we’ve hosted!

“We are very much looking forward to welcoming all of the finalists and judges to the hotel and I am honoured to have been invited to judge the competition too!”

The winner will go on to represent England at Miss World in Vietnam in November.
