BIRMINGHAM, UK -  Hilton Birmingham Metropole is inviting the local community to step up and travel "Around the World in a Day" on Sunday June 13th, as part of Hilton in the Community Foundation's annual national charity event, sponsored by Precor® fitness equipment. All proceeds raised from this year's event will be donated to Marston Green Primary School.

The fun day is part of a national challenge. Hilton Worldwide team members, charity partners and the public will all be working together on the day in over 75 hotels and offices across Europe, collectively aiming to travel the circumference of the earth - 24,901.55 miles. They will also be competing to see who can clock-up the most miles.

At Hilton Birmingham Metropole, participants will aim to cover as much distance as possible by walking, cycling and running as far as they can during the day. The event will be opened officially by the Mayor of Birmingham with help from the Coleshill Brass Band. There will also be fun and games for all ages that include a bouncy castle and prize draws which include a weekend away to London courtesy of Hilton Birmingham Metropole. There will also be a 24 Hour Team Challenge on May 21st, where eight teams will be competing to cycle and run as far as possible, non-stop for 24 hours.

Patrick Stapleton, General Manager commented, “This year’s event is an opportunity for the community to get together and to have fun in support of a great cause. It doesn’t matter what age you are or your fitness level, every bit of effort helps! To get involved, all you have to do is register in advance and come and join us on June 13th for an amazing day of summer fun and exercise followed by a meal, which is included in your registration fee.”

Around the World in a Day is being supported on a national level by several celebrities and sportsmen in different venues around the country including snooker legend Ronnie “the rocket” O’ Sullivan and several international rugby players. England and London Irish team mates Nick Kennedy, Topsy Ojo and Declan Danaher helped to launch this year’s event.

England second row Nick Kennedy said: “It’s great to be part of Around the World in a Day. This is a fantastic chance for people to challenge themselves, to get active and to support young people in need around the country.”
