January 26, 2010
BIRMINGHAM, UK - As the UK industry finally starts to see the green shoots of recovery, Hilton Birmingham Metropole welcomes 30 new people to join its 700 strong workforce.
As the hotel looks to grow on its strengths as a popular conference and banqueting venue a large proportion of its new appointments have joined the events team, including Jonathan Montgomery as conference and events sales manager.
Jonathan, who previously worked for the Marriott and De Vere hotel chains. In his new role, Jonathan is responsible for handling sales enquires and converting them into meetings, events and conferences.
Joining Jonathan is 28-year old Richard Hopton, who takes the role as deputy conference and events services manager. Richard has worked in numerous positions across the West Midlands region including five years as food and beverage manager at the ICC Birmingham. Before then, Richard was food and beverage manager for Hilton Warwick and began his career as assistant restaurant manager for Hilton Bromsgrove.
Now responsible for running 33 large meeting rooms and events for in excess of 1000 delegates, he also deputises 300 staff in the conference and events team.
Commenting on his new position, Richard, said: "It is great to be back working for Hilton as it is such a well-respected brand. Hilton Birmingham Metropole is an institution, recognised across the region and beyond, for hosting high-profile events and conferences."

Commenting on the new appointments, Patrick Stapleton, general manager of the Hilton Birmingham Metropole, said: "2010 is an exciting year for the hotel as we welcome an increase in new staff and spend a further £1.1m on refurbishments to the hotel.
"Despite the recession, the Hilton Birmingham Metropole has weathered the storm, thanks to our strong conference and events offering, loyal client base and proximity to the LG Arena. We anticipate seeing business grow even further this year as we invest in more training for our staff to ensure everything we do is focused around providing the best possible client experience."
