BIRMINGHAM, England - Birmingham's workforce is suffering from Vacationitis - a condition affecting stressed workers who are not taking enough breaks from work - as workers enjoy just seven out of the average 24 days annual leave a year. 150,000 Birmingham workers confess to feeling unproductive in the workplace, despite more than three quarters believing that small breaks from work can help to increase productivity.

A report by Hilton Hotels & Reports, the flagship brand of Hilton Worldwide, titled ‘2013 Hilton UK Vacation Deficit Report' shows that 50,000 workers in Birmingham work an average of two extra working days a week, with more than 65,000 cancelling a planned holiday because of work pressures. When on vacation, Birmingham workers are unable to switch off from the office as more than 75,000 check work emails, voicemail or call the office at least once a day, as well as 110,000 admitting to checking work emails during social occasions.

The research also shows that workers will spend on average 10 vacation days a year doing ‘domestic admin' such as looking after ill children, home improvements, catching up on cleaning and household chores and attending medical appointments.

To help workers in Birmingham fight back against Vacationitis, Hilton Hotels & Resorts is taking its Hilton Urgent Vacation Care Centre, www.vacationcarecentre.hilton.com, on the road with a mobile Vacation Care Unit visiting Brindleyplace in Birmingham Thursday 25 April 2013. A Hilton Vacation Care team will be on hand to help stressed out workers test their levels of Vacationitis via an online diagnostic test, receive a free prescription and take advantage of Advance Purchase* rates through which travellers can save up to 20 per cent on 2013 breaks at participating Hilton properties worldwide. Heart West Midlands listeners will also be able to enter a competition to win a three-night break to Hilton Diagonal Mar Barcelona.

Hilton Birmingham Metropole and Hilton Birmingham Bromsgrove will offer guests a taste bud vacation with a Vacationitis Remedy** - an uplifting mocktail offering a modern twist to traditional lemonade. A mix of zesty lemon, blue Curaçao and Orgeat syrup, topped with soda water and garnished with a fresh mint sprig, it's a refreshing pick-me-up and the perfect cure for those in need of a well-earned break. Inspired by ‘Vacationitis' the cocktail will be available at Hilton Birmingham Metropole from 22 April - 6 May and at Hilton Birmingham Bromsgrove from 15 April - 6 May, priced at £5.
