HOUSTON -  Hilton Americas-Houston is committed to the environment each and every day, constantly looking for new ways to reduce our carbon footprint. As the first Green Seal certified hotel in Texas, we felt the need to do even more to lessen our environmental impact. Recently, our 27,000 square foot laundry got in on the act with the installation of the AquaRecycle water reclamation system. This environmentally friendly system allows us to reduce our previous water usage of 630,000 gallons per month by 75%, conserving more than 5.5 million gallons of drinking water per year and keeping the same amount of wastewater and associated toxins from entering the environment through the local wastewater treatment plants.

The fact that the water maintains its 120 degree temperature means not only lower natural gas bills, but also a lessened environmental impact through preventing more than 260 metric tons of greenhouse gases in the form of CO2 from entering the atmosphere. Our high-volume laundry facility processes nine million pounds per year, not only handling the laundry requirements for our 1,200-guestroom downtown convention hotel, but also handling all laundry needs of the George R. Brown Convention Center plus seven additional area hotels.

By utilizing the AquaRecycle system, we have reduced not only our own carbon footprint, but also that of others as we continue our ongoing dedication to environmental stewardship.
