Report Shows Vacationitis Affects 650,000 Workers In Manchester

MANCHESTER, England - Manchester's workforce is suffering from Vacationitis - a condition affecting stressed workers who are not taking enough breaks from work - as workers enjoy just seven out of the average 24 days annual leave a year. 650,000 Manchester workers confess to feeling unproductive at work, despite more than three quarters believing that small breaks from work can help to increase productivity.
A report by Hilton Hotels & Reports, the flagship brand of Hilton Worldwide, titled ‘2013 Hilton UK Vacation Deficit Report' shows that a quarter of workers in Manchester work an average of two extra working days a week, with more than 250,000 cancelling a planned holiday because of work pressures. When on vacation, Mancunians' are unable to switch off from the office as more than 300,000 check work emails, voicemail or call the office at least once a day, as well as 400,000 admitting to checking work emails during social occasions.
The research also shows that workers will spend on average 10 vacation days a year doing ‘domestic admin' such as looking after ill children, home improvements, catching up on cleaning and household chores and attending medical appointments.
