LONDON - The Waldorf Hilton, one of London’s most famous hotels in the heart of West End theatre land, is excited to unveil its newly-refurbished Astor Suite which has been has been completely transformed as part of a £13.5 million hotel-wide renovation.

Step back in time with a modern twist in the signature Astor Suite, named after the hotels benefactor, Lord William Astor, whose portrait proudly adorns the wall of the living room of the suite.

While the standard room refurbishment is a fresh contemporary take on the 1920’s period, the Astor suite offers a more traditional design and brings ultimate in luxury and comfort in an elegant setting. Embracing times gone by The Astor Suite promises a truly unique stay with an array of vintage inspired mod-cons spanning the living area, master bedroom and bathroom. In true 1920s style, the Suite features a gramophone, vintage tea set, period-style telephone, bespoke handcrafted furniture inspired by antiques of the day and a DVD collection featuring iconic movie stars such as James Cagney, Cary Grant and Charlie Chaplin.

But perhaps the most notable new feature is the Suite’s ‘Press For Champagne’ button which allows guests the pleasure to request bubbly by the bottle or glass direct to the suite with a single press. The Suite boasts two of these buttons: one in the bedroom and another in the living room area - the modern day service bell but with a twist.

The renovation of course entails all that one comes to expect of 1920s style and grace, however modern times are reflected. The gramophone is actually a digital radio / CD player that also plays records, whilst looking like it has been taken straight from an antique store. The elaborate period telephone is not just for show – it works like any other telephone in the hotel. The bathroom and living area feature flat screen televisions to provide all the comforts of a modern hotel in a stylish setting for guests to unwind and relax.

The design of the décor has been carefully considered throughout for the new age luxury traveller. The sofa, master bedroom chair, sideboard, bedside tables and the elegant fourposter bed itself are all synonymous with the typical markings of 1920s design.

Unique to this room, the four poster bed and all the furniture has been specially designed with rich timber finishes and fabrics complemented by a silver leaf antique mirror and artwork frames. Murano glass lamps with blue silk shades add charm and a strong personality to the room.

The walls in the Suite are adorned with black and white photographs featuring fashion icons of the 1920s, including actress and dancer Louise Brooks, which was taken in 1928.

The Waldorf Hilton’s renovation has seen the restoration of the hotel’s elegant Edwardian grandeur, which has made it a favourite with guests from all over the world for more than a century.

Situated on the verdant, tree-lined thoroughfare of Aldwych, The Waldorf Hilton opened in 1908 and is a Grade II listed building. Completed in phases, the hotel-wide renovation encompassed all 298 guestrooms, seven meeting rooms and event spaces, including the iconic Palm Court, Good Godfrey’s Bar, Adelphi Suite and Executive Boardroom, with refreshed interiors complementing the grandeur and grace of the hotel’s striking architecture.

Alison Palin, general manager, The Waldorf Hilton, London said, “The Astor Suite is the pinnacle of luxury at the Waldorf Hilton London. The Suite has a character all of its own and has been elegantly designed to celebrate the hotel’s iconic style right down to the smallest detail for a truly memorably stay. We look forward to welcoming guests to our newlyrefurbished hotel in the heart of the West End and on the doorsteps of Theatreland.”

The renovation places the hotel at the forefront of prestigious hotels in London, balancing the excitement and fun of the West End with excellence in service and indulgence for old and new guests alike. For more information or to book the Astor Suite, visit www.waldorfhilton.co.uk.
