GLASGOW, Scotland - Hilton Glasgow, Hilton Glasgow Grosvenor and Hilton Garden Inn Glasgow City Centre will be participating in the annual event of Earth Hour 2012 from 8.30pm-9.30pm on Saturday 31 March 2012, which sees people and organisations around the world unite in action against global climate change. Hilton hotels in Glasgow and many more of the 3,800 hotels which form the Hilton Worldwide portfolio of hotels will dedicate one hour in the evening to energy conservation by offering guests a range of alternative energy-saving activities.

"We are pleased to join in this global effort that galvanises organisations and individuals around the world to symbolically switch off their lights in support of energy conservation," said Craig Gardner, general manager, Hilton Glasgow. "We encourage our guests and neighbours to join in on the movement," he added.

In addition to switching off lights and electrical appliances around the hotel premises, Hilton Glasgow will serve guests organic drinks and a specially designed meal in honour of Earth Hour by candlelight.  Hilton Garden Inn Glasgow City Centre plans to celebrate the occasion by staging a special candle-lit dining experience in its AA rosette restaurant, the City Café. Meanwhile, Hilton Glasgow Grosvenor will have a candle lit display in hotel lobby and will also be checking in guests by torch light. Additionally, the hotel restaurant Bo'Vine will be preparing a special starter, and the cocktail bar, Bobar, has arranged a special cocktail, an acoustic guitarist and glow sticks all in honour of the night.

Organised by World Wildlife Fund (WWF), Earth Hour began in 2007 as a way for individuals to show how simple steps can make a significant impact on reducing greenhouse gases and addressing climate change. The event has turned into a movement. More than 5,200 cities and towns in 135 countries worldwide switched off their lights for Earth Hour 2011 alone, sending a powerful message for action on climate change. It also ushered in a new era with members going "Beyond the Hour" to commit to lasting action for the planet.
