COYLUMBIRDGE, U.K. - Hilton Coylumbridge has invested £387.8K in building a new Biomass Energy Centre to replace the previously existing oil fired boilers and reduce the hotel’s carbon footprint. The two new Herz Firematic 499kW Biomass Boilers run on sustainable wood pellets sourced from a local provider, which further reduces the fuel mileage emissions.

Steve Gordon, facilities manager, Hilton Coylumbridge, said, “We take a holistic and comprehensive approach to sustainability and look at all aspects of the business to explore new ways to reduce our impact on the environment. The Biomass Energy Centre project has had a very positive impact on our CO2 reduction commitments. The fuel change allows the hotel to reduce our g/kWh CO2 emissions by almost 70%.”

Inverness-based Korrie Renewables, part of the Ingen Group, was awarded the contract to complete the Biomass Energy Centre project. They completed the facility development and had the biomass system fully operational on time and on budget.

Gavin Taylor, renewable manager, Korrie Renewables, said, “Our team has over 20 years of experience in heating and renewable system design and we have delivered over 1,000 renewable energy installations. In addition to installing two new Herz Firematic 499kW Biomass Boilers, we renovated a derelict building, built a new fuel store and installed preinsulated underground pipework, which was connected to the existing heating system and swimming pool.”

As part of the hotel’s ongoing participation in the Green Tourism Scheme, Hilton Coylumbridge aspires to ensure all building and facilities management practices are as sustainable as possible. The new Biomass Energy Centre is housed in a reconstructed building that has provided an opportunity to improve the environment in the area of the site. Indigenous materials were utilised where possible and the Energy Centre has been clad in Scottish Larch.
