March 19, 2013
CARDIFF, Wales - Hilton Cardiff plans to mark Earth Hour 2013 from 8:30 p.m. - 9:30 p.m. local time on Saturday, March 23, 2013 as people and organizations around the world turn off their lights in support of action on global climate change. "We are committed to energy conservation and we are encouraging our guests and neighbors to join us in this global movement," said Marie Fagan, General Manager of Hilton Cardiff.
Earth Hour will be celebrated at Hilton Cardiff through a variety of activities including:
- A 12-hour team cycle in the hotel's reception area, during which the team will attempt to keep a light bulb, which will be attached to the bike, lit from 8.30am until 8.30pm using pedal power alone.
- At 8.30pm all the hotel's lights will be turned off for an hour.
- A special sustainable dinner menu will be served in a candle lit Razzi restaurant while live acoustic music is performed in the Metropole Lounge.
- A special Black Mojito cocktail will be available throughout the day and Hilton Cardiff will donate a percentage from the sales of these, as well as from the sustainable dinner menu, to the WWF and Hilton in the Community Foundation which supports local children's charities across the region.
Organized by World Wildlife Fund (WWF), Earth Hour began in 2007 as a way for individuals to show how simple steps can make a significant impact on reducing greenhouse gases and addressing climate change.
