Hilton Appoints Steve Cowan As General Manager Of Hilton San Diego Bayfront

SAN DIEGO - Hilton (NYSE: HLT) has appointed Steve Cowan to the position of general manager for downtown San Diego’s Hilton San Diego Bayfront.

Cowan most recently served as the complex general manager in San Francisco for three years, overseeing the operations of nearly 3,000 rooms between Hilton San Francisco Union Square and Parc55 – a Hilton Hotel. During his time in San Francisco, he repositioned Hilton San Francisco Union Square as part of a $100 million renovation including the re-conception of the hotel’s restaurants and lounges, positioning the hotel to resonate with the next generation of travelers.  He also formed the Hiltons of San Francisco Complex by aligning the commercial services and operations teams, leveraging a competitive advantage by offering large users a singular touchpoint for both hotels.

Cowan joined the Hilton family of hotels in 1997 as the general manager of Embassy Suites by Hilton in Portland, Maine, and then to general manager of Doubletree by Hilton Guest Suites hotel in Atlanta.  Steve held positions in Washington, D.C. where he was the resident manager of the iconic Washington Hilton from 2003 to 2006, and complex general manager of Doubletree by Hilton Crystal City, and  Embassy Suites by Hilton Crystal City from 2006 to 2009. Cowan then returned to the Washington Hilton as general manager where he remained until moving to California in 2015. 

In his latest role, Cowan will oversee the day-to-day operations of the contemporary 1,190-room Hilton San Diego Bayfront. Rising 30 stories above San Diego’s waterfront, the AAA four-diamond Hilton San Diego Bayfront captures the essence of the region’s distinctive coastal culture and lifestyle. It is ideally located adjacent to the San Diego Convention Center and across from the Gaslamp Quarter and San Diego Padres Petco Park. Cowan has served on several industry-related boards including the Hotel Association of Washington, D.C., San Francisco Travel Association, Union Square Business Improvement District and Hotel Council of San Francisco.  In 2010 Steve received the Outstanding General Manager of the Year award from AH&LA and Hilton General Manager of the Year in 2013.

Steve is a private pilot and enjoys classic auto restoration.  He will be relocating to San Diego with his wife Michelle and two daughters Alexandra and Amelia.
