Culinary Spanish Invasion At Hilton Kuala Lumpur - Viva Espãna!

KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia - The many flavours of Spain are here at Hilton Kuala Lumpur from 2nd to 8th April 2009. Iconic Spanish figures consisting of Chefs, wine makers, fashion designers, flamenco dancers have all joined forces with the Hilton KL culinary team to celebrate Viva España!, an authentic extravaganza of Spanish food, lifestyle and culture.
During the seven day extravaganza which sees both Tourism Madrid and the Spanish Tourist Office as the Official Sponsors, a wide spectrum of mouth-watering Spanish cuisine and wines will be showcased with live demos, cooking workshops and wine dinners by leading chefs like One Michelin Star Chef Paco Roncero from Madrid as well as Spain’s leading Premium Winemaker Alvaro Palacios will be on hand to share expert advice during wine dinners and wine master classes.
To start the week-long event, the Opening Launch of Viva España! on Thursday, 2nd April 09 will be marked with a passionate flamenco performance by a top flamenco dance troupe specially flown in from Spain. This will be followed by a cocktail reception that will feature all the guest chefs and winemakers – a teaser of things to come.
Also at the launch will be celebrated Spanish high-street fashion label Bimba & Lola with newly opened outlets in Pavilion, Gardens and One Utama who will put on a fashion show displaying their designs that are known for their original, effortless and unpretentious style.

Chef Paco Roncero (La Terraza del Casino, Madrid, Spain) - Considered as Ferrán Adrià's most outstanding disciple, one-Michelin star Executive Chef of Madrid’s La Terraza del Casino in Madrid, Paco Roncero is a molecular gastronomy specialist who sees food in a very different way from others. His interest in the forms and textures of food allowed Roncero to discover the fun in experimenting with the presentation of modern cuisine.
Chef Paco Roncero will be hosting a series of wine dinners and conducting molecular gastronomy demonstrations for professional chefs at Senses to demonstrate his signature dishes. This is a great opportunity for participants to learn from the finest and obtain handy tips that will help you cook like a master at home.

Chef Javier Sancha (El Pastor Restaurant) - El Pastor has been regarded as one of the region's best Asadores - a type of restaurant named for the wood-burning brick oven at its heart. Mason El Pastor is most well known for their extraordinary Lechazo Asado which is roast suckling lamb.
Chef Javier Sancha has presided over the restaurant’s kitchen for the past 15 years and carries on the Sancha tradition of producing arguably the most tender and succulent roast meats in Spain.
Chef Sergi Millet (Mas Rabell Restaurant) - For a more familiar taste, Sergi Millet, head chef of Miguel Torres’s private restaurant Mas Rabell at Torres Winery returns to this part of the world after having been Executive Chef at La Bodega and Telawi Street Bistro.
Sergi has worked with various iconic chefs namely Ferran Adria and Oriol Balaguer (named best pastry Chef in Barcelona), which has influenced his style of cooking and raised the level of Spanish cuisine at Mas Rabell - (2006 American Wine & Spirits Magazine - “Best Winery Restaurant in Spain”).
Chef Sergi Millet together with Chef Javier Sancha will preside over the main courses for the Spanish themed buffet at Sudu from 2nd to 8th April.

Live! Venenciador Theatrics

Experience a unique way to enjoy a glass of Sherry served by Jesus Delgado, Jerez’s leading Venenciador. An especially popular practice in Jerez and with the flair of a Flamenco dancer, sherry is poured using a venencia, a thin cup on a long stick which is then poured from above the head of the venenciador. A pretty spectacular performance not to be missed given that sherry glasses are very small targets.
